Before I became a mother I never though of one day I will become a full time mom and work at home mom. But after my boy was born, me and my husband were looking for a nanny or maid to help look after my boy. But after I read on that module, I have a more clearer picture on what is SEO and why is it important for internet marketer.

This is because before we go to a website shop for our desire goods, we normally will go to search for the product information and which company is offering a best offer. If you are running a business using a website or you are using a blog to market your products, the content of the website or blog is very important. Search engine do not need a duplicate content, thus you need to create a great and original content for search engine to “notice” you. Keyword is playing an important role over here, be focused on what your selling. Try to have a page dedicated to each keyword or phrase that you want to rank well in search engine. Avoid using flash and frames in your content because search engine do not read all these.Minimize the use of Java Script as this will slow down the load time of your webpage and this is what an internet surfer do not like.

2. Page Title

Page titles are important for both the search engine optimization and click through rate. As when we do a search in search engine such as Google, the title will be the one that attract us to click on it. Back to the same example, I am looking for a Canon camera, after I type in this into Google, there will be thousand of results related to camera appear on the page. But I will only click on those title that read “Canon camera latest model” or “Canon Digital Camera Review”. I may not click on a title that sound like “ebay- selling second hand canon camera”, this is not what I wanted. The tips for a good page title will be — page title should not contain more than 5 keywords that is directly related to what is on the corresponding page and place important keywords early in the page title.

3. URLs

Search engines take into account the names of the directories and files in each URL where there is content. Thus keywords should appear in the directory names or file names. For example, if I want to use a link for Canon camera, I should put Canon camera as keyword for the URL and not camera(this is too general).

4. Link Struture

How your page link to each other is important. Let look at my online shop, KellyGiftStore. At each of the image, there are link to individual page and link back to home page.  This will not give a break for the buyer when they click on a single page. When they click on an image on the main page, this will bring them to the page that is related to the image.

5. Images

Search engine cannot “read” what is inside the image thus there is a difficulty for search engine to rank an image. In order to have the image help for search ranking try to have keywords in the file names and alternative in the html to describe the image. You may add on a caption near the image for the search engine to pickup on the proximity of the text and it helps them to index the image.
